10 TIPS FOR SAFE HIKING IN THE MOUNTAINS
1. Health in the mountains
Hiking is an aerobic and resistance sport, therefore, by putting strain on the heart and circulation, it requires a good state of health . Choose a pace that never leaves you out of breath. Enjoy the view and listen to nature. You must always and in any case remember to records ENERGIES. One of the most frequent mistakes is starting with a high pace.
2. Plan the trip well
You should never, ever leave for the mountains without knowing the type di pathway to beat. Hiking maps, the internet and ourselves as hoteliers provide you with all the information relating to length, difference in altitude, degree of difficulty and updated conditions. Find out at least a couple of days in advance about the weather conditions that are scheduled for the day of the excursion and, to be even more sure, take a look at the forecast even a few hours before leaving: it can save you a lot of problems.
3. Onion clothing
Adapt your equipment to the planned excursion, trying to minimize the weight of your backpack. Protection from rain, cold and sun must never be missing, as well as the first aid kit and mobile phone (European emergency number 112). Map or GPS, however, are valid orientation aids.
4. Appropriate footwear
It is thought that common "comfortable" shoes are enough, in reality you need to equip yourself with special ones boots from trekking. Buy a pair, possibly going to a specialized shop, and make sure they are of excellent quality, otherwise there is the risk that at the end of the journey your feet will be covered in annoying blisters, or (even worse) you could get a sprain and ruin everything the experience
Always remember also the socks suitable for walking: in any case avoid cotton socks and always opt for socks wool socks or created with fiber.
5. The secret is a sure step
Falls due to slips or trips are the most frequent causes of accidents! Make sure that too fast a pace or tiredness does not compromise your confidence or concentration. Warning: by proceeding with caution you also avoid causing falling stones.
6. Stay on marked trails
On terrain without paths, the risk of losing orientation and falling, including stones, increases. Avoid shortcuts and return to the last known point before leaving the trail. Often underestimated, but very dangerous: inaccessible areas covered in rotten snow!
7. Periodic breaks
An adequate break promotes recovery, allows you to enjoy the scenery and company. Food and drink are essential to maintain physical fitness and concentration. For thirst, isotonic drinks are recommended. Bars of muesli, dried fruit and biscuits quench your hunger during the journey.
8. Responsibility for children
In passages with risk of falling, an adult can assist only one child. Very exposed paths, which require prolonged concentration, are not suitable for children.
9. Small groups
Small groups allow for mutual assistance. Always stay in a group. Attention solo travelers: even small setbacks can turn into serious emergency situations.
10. Respect nature and the environment
To protect Alpine nature, do not abandon waste, avoid loud noises, stay on paths, do not disturb wild and grazing animals, do not collect plants and respect protected areas.
