Educational itinerary that reaches Lago dei Caprioli.

Snowshoeing of medium difficulty, which develops along marked paths and marked by special signs showing a snowshoe. The itinerary follows the educational trail up to Malga Bassa and continues up to Lago dei Caprioli, one of the iconic places of Val di Sole.

Direction to follow

Pellizzano (920 m) - Malga Bassa (1.250 m) - Lago dei Caprioli (1.280 m) 

In the town of Pellizzano follow the signs for Fazzon-Lago dei Caprioli, park at the second hairpin bend and follow the educational path "Senter dela Palù”, which leads to Malga Bassa di Fazzon - Visitor Center. The path is also called 'of the gnomes' for the structures made of wood and natural materials, which are found along the route and evoke, in fact, the gnomes of the forestContinue from the low mountain hut on the main road up to Lago dei Caprioli, a very popular place in summer and which takes on a completely different charm in winter, covered in snow and ice.
We suggest a tasty stop at the Chalet Lago dei Caprioli. If you intend to have lunch or dinner here, we invite you, before leaving for the excursion, to find out about the opening hours and make a reservation at (+39) 0463 751157. 

To return you can follow the same route backwards or, alternatively, on the right of the car park, take the flat road which in about 3 km takes you to Valpiana, and from here follow the'In Valpiana' itinerary, which takes you to Ossana.

Parking

Following the signs for Lago dei Caprioli - Fazzon, park the car on the side of the road, near the playground.

Safety information

For snow hiking activities follow these guidelines:

  • Inform yourself well about the route and its conditions before leaving. You can do this by contactingtourist information office near you;
  • the day before the excursion consult the forecast and avalanche bulletin
  • if you plan to reach a mountain hut or refuge, make sure they are open and, if you intend to stop to eat or sleep, call them in advance to book;
  • before leaving, if you don't feel well, postpone going out until you feel better;
  • never leave waste at high altitude and, if possible, avoid leaving it at the refuges or mountain huts you visit;
  • If you spot wild animals along the way, we invite you not to approach them, not to shout and to keep your dog on a leash, to prevent him from instinctively chasing them, scaring them.

 

Equipment

Here is a list of items you should have with you when you go snowshoeing: 

  • waterproof boots;
  • snowshoes and trekking poles. To rent them, choose the rental near you;
  • waterproof, comfortable and warm winter clothing;
  • mask, as required by the COVID-19 safety protocol;
  • hat, gloves, sunglasses and sunscreen;
  • backpack with a snack and a thermos of hot drink;
  • avalanche self-rescue kit MANDATORY 'where, due to snow and weather conditions, there are risks of avalanches' (Art.26 Legislative Decree 28 February 2021 n.40). The kit consists of Artva, shovel and probe and, before tackling any excursion, make sure you know how to use it. You can possibly rent it in shops that offer this service;
  • camera or mobile phone to immortalize the panoramas and views you like most. If you like, you can share them on social media using #visitvaldisole.
