Challenging winter excursion that can be done on mountaineering skis which starts from Campo Carlo Magno, passes through various mountain huts and leads to the intermediate station of the Grostè cable car.
The excursion first takes place across the Campo Carlo Magno plateau up to Malga Mondifrà: an open environment very well exposed to the sun throughout the day; then you enter a dense and evocative coniferous forest where red fir alternates with silver firs and larches dominate. Here you meet the Vaglianella and Vagliana huts, near which the vegetation begins to thin out. Looking up you can admire up close the imposing south faces of the Dolomite massifs of Vagliana and Pietra Grande; further south the view extends over the central part of the Brenta Dolomites and the Grostè ski slopes, which meet at the end of the itinerary, near the Boch Refuge.

Grostè cable car intermediate station
From Campo Carlo Magno you can reach the Cross Country Center by descending 500m towards Dimaro. The route passes an undulating first part which leads directly to Malga Mondifrà, 1.632m, where, having abandoned the large pasture, you enter the woods. You then easily climb the ridge to the left of Val Gelada until you reach Malga Vaglianella, 1.826m. Continue uphill along the forest road that leads to Malga Vagliana, 1.976m. From here go up the slope to the right up to Sella di Vagliana, 2.083m, just below the arrival point of the chairlift. From the Sella you descend a hundred meters along the ski slope on the left until you reach a small plateau. Here turn left continuing along slight slopes passing through Pozza di Boch, at 2.020m, from where, uphill, you reach the intermediate station of the Grostè cable car, 2.070m. To return to Madonna di Campiglio it is possible to return via the track.
Paid parking at Campo Carlo Magno or free at the Cross Country Centre.
Attention: for some stretches the itinerary takes place along the cross-country ski trail; it is recommended to walk on the edges so as not to hinder the passage of skiers.
The habit of proceeding on irregular mountain terrain is required. In case of fresh snow, the use of snowshoes is recommended. Pay particular attention to possible frozen parts in freezing conditions.
