847 - Oltresommo Bike Tour

Photo from: Paolo Codeluppi

Created as a variable marathon of the circuit named after the champion Gibo Simoni, this tour remains one of the most challenging competitive routes on the Alpe Cimbra. It is run by 'champions' and requires the legs of good climbers!

By Oltresommo, on the Alpe, we mean the wide area that extends 'beyond the Sommo Pass', between San Sebastiano and Nosellari. On the saddle of our mountain bikes we set off from Carbonare for this very demanding tour, which is however capable of giving us great satisfaction and excitement! The descent from Mount Rust to Lake Lavarone, a true pearl of Trentino, is spectacular, as is the passage through the Great War trenches at Nosellari. Difficult and demanding, but very rewarding is instead the climb to Fort Cherle, relaxing the crossing of the wooded Val Fredda and finally liberating the beautiful and fun descent back to the starting point! And to make it possible for everyone, pedal-assisted mountain bikes are available for hire.

Turn-by-turn directions

From the square in Carbonare (1070 m) we descend into the wide meadow area of the Longhenbisen, then reach the pastures of the Elbele malga; from here we reach the suggestive Comando di Virti, then cut across the north-west slope of Mount Rust, skim past Lake Lavarone, descend quickly to Nosellari, head again to Carbonare, cross the Astico torrent and climb the north-east slope of Cherle; We continue along an easy dirt track to the Durer high ground (1549 m) and through the Val Fredda to the area of Forte Cherle (1440 m), from which we descend abruptly to the valley. Touching the villages of Tézzeli and San Sebastiano, we return on a good descent to Carbonare.
